I read alot of reviews on this product before buying it, and the reviews were very mixed. But it was the only game in town, so I decided to give it a try. It worked perfectly!! Took about 1.5 hours to transfer everything from my old PC to my new one, using the included high-speed Ethernet cable. (Please note, this is not a regular Ethernet cable, so you can't just use one you have lying around). Since it worked for me with no issues, I can only surmise that those with bad experiences didn't follow the directions. You should read the on-screen instructions available when you put in the disc. It has more detail than the paper insert regarding preparing both PC's --> you need to turn off any scheduled updates, power settings (like sleep mode) and firewalls. You also need to make sure both computers are running the same version of Windows. It is also recommended that you run a virus and malware check on your old computer so you don't bring the bad stuff over to the new one. So, there is some "prep" that needs to be done before the transfer, but if you do all these things, you will not have a problem.
Installed and set up relatively easily, however, the software incorrectly decided that my new laptop did not have an ethernet port. Because of this, I had to use the much slower wi-fi transfer method as opposed to the transfer cable. That slowed things down considerably, but everything that I expected to transfer did transfer. The software gave a scary error message that my new laptop had an older version of windows than my old laptop, and that this is an unsupported transfer. That possibility was not disclosed prior to purchase. To try addressing this, I ran windows update on my new laptop, which ended up being a huge update. Nevertheless, when I re-started the process after updating the new laptop, the Laplink software displayed the same scary error message. I decided to ignore the message and proceed anyway. I was comfortable doing this, however, many users would be confused or abandon the process.I am up and running on my new laptop. I would recommend this product but considerable technical savvy and a certain level of courage are needed to deal with the unexpected errors, which may actually be bugs.
After 7 hours PCmover proudly said "Finished" but my headaches have just started. I was puzzled, since it seemed to have fairly good reviews, thus it is important to get review out there. My first indication of trouble was that the wall paper from my old computer was not there - the screen was black. I thought, wow that should have been the easy part! What else did it miss?. Then checking my applications - icons moved, but none of them worked (Norton, Quicken, Office. etc..) I had to reinstall them - except, Norton said it was incompatible with Windows 10, and MS Office 10 would not activate again, so I had to purchase a new copy. The worst part is that the PCmover moved items from the old computer (I thought it would be smart enough just to copy them) rendering the old computer partially inoperable. So a humble warning, save yourself time ( in the long run ) move applications and data by reinstalling on your new PC.
